Jewelry Making – Metalwork

Learn the basics of metalwork with this workshop designed as an introduction to jewelry making. We will be making our own components from raw and reclaimed materials. Skills learned in this class will include wire forming, sawing, cutting sanding, and texturing. We will be making our own jump rings and earwires and create works with cold connections. This workshop is limited to 5 persons.

A materials fee of $5 will be collected at the workshop. No experience is necessary but please bring along any tools or equipment you may already have.

Artist Bio:Karen Olson - The Art Loft

Artist and photographer, Karen Olson, has been active in the Midcoast community art scene for over 20 years. She enjoys teaching and encouraging all to find their creative voice, which is the topic of Karen’s successful blog, Renuko Style. Karen has been featured in the Stampington Publications national magazine, Artful Blogging and has published a book, ‘Photo Therapy: Exploring Emotion with Photography.’
Over the years she has enjoyed several artistic endeavors including jewelry making. Karen’s reclaimed metal jewelry can be found in several Maine galleries and in Arizona.

Drawing for Beginners – Second in Series

This is a four-week drawing class exploring the basics of seeing and making images. We will be using soft charcoal on paper and learning about line, shade, composition, contrast, and movement. Bring your curiosity and come draw with us!

Week 1: Paper bags and household objects – We will explore line and shade, light and dark

Week 2: Objects from nature – We will focus on texture and contrast

Week 3: Still life and the (clothed) figure – We will concentrate on composition, movement, and negative space

Week 4: Faces and Landscapes – refining what we know and creating final pieces for critique, and possible final show

Drawing for Beginners will run for 4 weeks in January, Thursdays, 5:30-7:00pm. The price of $60 includes all 4 weeks. The class is suitable for ages 10 to adult.

You must pre-register for the 3-week class. Please note the specific dates of this class, January 5, 12, 26th. All supplies and materials are included in your registration fee. If you have any questions, please email us.

Artist Bio:Beginning Drawing - Art Loft Rockland

Christine deLorimier has been drawing since age 9, inspired at first by the grace and beauty of horses. She holds a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from Maine College of Art and now lives in Thomaston. She is very interested in the play of light and how our eyes convert the tones we see into perceptions of objects. In her free time, Chrys loves to be outdoors with her family and rescue dogs.
