Our Mission

Our mission is to enrich our local community through arts education. We aim to make art accessible to everyone regardless of income, age, or experience level. It is our goal to offer low-cost art classes on a variety of topics in a comfortable and welcoming environment. In addition, we endeavor to give professional support to emerging and teaching artists through our Resident Artist program. We believe the beneficial, therapeutic effects of creating art are not dependent on a person’s skill or talents and can enrich the lives of all. We support the emotional health and wellbeing of those in our community by stimulating their creative spirits while being attentive to their gifts.

We offer a fun, casual, and inviting gathering place in the Rockland community for creatives to learn and make art, as well as make new friends.

It is our dream that everyone gets to experience the amazing power of art!

The Art Loft is a community art center that makes art accessible to everyone, no matter their ability, age, or income. We aim to inspire everyone to unleash their inner artist and flex their creative muscles on a regular basis.

We are located at 385 Main Street in Rockland. We are in suite #9 inside the Thorndike Building conveniently located in the heart of the Rockland arts center. The Art Loft is a great place to meet and make and new creative friends.

Although there are many galleries, museums and art centers in Rockland, the Art Loft fills a different need. We are a social art club of sorts. A place to visit regularly to Create, Connect, Learn and Live!

IMG_2574The Art Loft was founded by Kathryn Matlack of Camden and Paula Apro of Rockland. Both Kathryn & Paula have a deep passion for the arts and always dreamed of creating a community art center that would help make art accessible to everyone. They feel that art can be so powerful in people’s lives and realize that many never even attempt to express their creativity, either because they don’t feel like they are artists, or because the opportunity never presents itself. There have been many studies done on the health benefits of playing and creating and Kathryn & Paula want to make it easy and fun to make art a part of people’s lives.
