MAY – Taught by Barbara Davis & Paula Apro
May class theme: Creativity for Self and Soul
During the month of May, we will focus on how the creative process can facilitate self-knowledge and connection to spirit. While the art-making process is generally a dialogue between the creator and the created, these classes will focus on how this dialogue can be used to increase self-awareness, self-acceptance and access to one’s intuition. Participants will be offered prompts and guidance to create images and expressive work that reflect their inner selves.
Each class will have a different theme and materials for collage, drawing and painting will be provided. Some possible themes include: creativity and imagination, the inner critic, grief and loss, dialogue with the soul and creative goal setting.

JUNE – Taught by Melissa Kelly
June class theme: The Art of Taking Risks
Creativity is all about new ideas and innovation but you can’t get there without taking risks. Sure, learning technique is an essential step for all artists, but if we stop there the art becomes stale. This class will guide you through exercises to think outside of the box, to push boundaries and take risks. Each class will be unique but connected to the theme. Together we will explore ways to take risks in subject matter, composition, color combination and texture to make the ordinary extraordinary. Appropriate for all levels.
Tuesdays 10:30am – 12:00pm (the first class will be Monday 6/4 instead of Tuesday)
Thursdays 6 – 7:30pm
JULY – Taught by Justin Kinney
July class theme: Intro to Figure Painting
The figure could prove to be an extremely difficult subject to paint without the proper tools. There are various tricks and tips that may ease the stress of painting a human body. This class will guide you through the steps necessary to accurately paint and draw the human form. Each week we will tackle a new aspect of the human body until we are comfortable enough to begin painting on our own. From the top of the head down to the toes. This series is appropriate for all levels.
Mondays 5 – 7:00pm
Wednesdays 10am-12:00pm (except Independence Day)
AUGUST – Taught by Angela Anderson
August class themes
Wearable Art Form and Arte Povera
Painting as a Wearable Art Form. Paint portraits, pet images, and other personal statements boldly on light colored denim or white jeans. We will design and execute fully painted pants and/or jackets. Acrylic paints and limited spray paint (done outdoors) will don our garments.
Mondays 1 – 3:00pm
Arte Povera Jubilee
50 years after the postmodern Arte Povera Avant-garde movement, conceptual, installation art and performance pieces are still in vogue. This fun workshop style weekly studio session will be a time of collaging, painting, sewing, combining and altering found objects and ideas to make art of the natural and discarded.
Tuesdays 5 – 7:00pm
SEPTEMBER – please stay tuned for our September plans!
