During the month of May, we will focus on how the creative process can facilitate self-knowledge and connection to spirit. While the art-making process is generally a dialogue between the creator and the created, these classes will focus on how this dialogue can be used to increase self-awareness, self-acceptance and access to one’s intuition. Participants will be offered prompts and guidance to create images and expressive work that reflect their inner selves.
Each class will have a different theme and materials for collage, drawing and painting will be provided. Some possible themes include creativity and imagination, the inner critic, grief and loss, dialogue with the soul and creative goal setting.
This creativity class will focus on drawing from the inside, tapping into one’s own internal energy and intuition. Barbara will teach techniques to get started with art making and to listen to one’s own internal artistic vision and voice. Barbara will lead the class in drawing, painting and collage making exercises that encourage self-discovery and self-acceptance. Participants will be guided through the use of different materials, and different ways to create images. Participants will explore how different energy can be expressed and released through different expressive arts techniques.
This workshop combines Barbara’s interest in art and self-discovery. As both an artist and therapist Barbara has always been fascinated by the relationship between one’s inside and one’s outside and how best to understand and express this relationship. Participants will be encouraged to look inward for inspiration and direction. While some people interpret images, Barbara’s focus is in on the healing process of creating and engaging in the expressive arts. The meaning of the work comes through dialog between the images and the creator or audience and is always individual.
Attend one or all three classes. Because of the personal experiential and exploratory nature of this class, it can be repeated numerous times, each time creating a different outcome.
Price: Free for members; $20 drop-in for non-members.
