“Something I want to hold on to, something I want to let go”
As we welcome the New Year and the excitement of the holidays wears off, let’s gather to nourish our Creative Soul. Whether we consciously choose to make New Year’s resolutions or not, most of us spend a few moments reviewing the past year and thinking about our hopes for the next. This workshop is designed to enhance this process and cultivate our creativity by using the art-making process to communicate our hopes, goals and losses.
This workshop is designed for anyone who wants to spend a few hours in a supportive environment exploring their creativity. This is not an art instruction class. No art making experience is necessary. This is a expressive arts workshop where participants are guided to express themselves through their creative processes.
The workshop will begin with some warm-up exercises to set the tone for the rest of the workshop. There will be a brief guided meditation and a prompt offered to inspire your creativity.
Materials will be supplied but participants are welcome to bring their own materials to share if they wish (especially if you know you want to use a particular material, best to bring it in case we don’t have it) Participants will use pastels, markers, collage materials and paint, among other things.
About your instructor – Barbara Davis
As a teenager, Barbara learned about the healing powers of art while attending a drawing class at the same time her father was struggling with a life-threatening illness. It was at that time that Barbara realized she wanted to combine her interests in art and psychology to help people. Barbara integrates her knowledge about art making and psychological healing to guide participants to explore and express their inner selves. Participants are invited to share their process with the group but never required to. This is a time for self-reflection and healing. Art-making projects are open-ended so as to allow for the most creativity and participants are encouraged to follow their gut and respond to what is inside of them. Barbara has been guiding groups and individuals towards self-acceptance and healing for over 20 years.
